ABSTRACT

This chapter provides Hungary profiles which includes key information about the relevant corporate sustainability and responsibility (CSR) history, country-specific issues, trends, research, education and leading organizations. CSR is a relatively new phenomenon in Hungary. However, in years it has become more and more fashionable. In Hungary, as with the majority of Central–Eastern European post-socialist countries, the socialist legacy has influenced the national vision of CSR. There are two prevailing misunderstandings of CSR in Hungary: first, it is often associated with charity and philanthropy; and second, it is frequently linked to the fulfilment of legal obligations. Socially responsible investment (SRI) is very underdeveloped in Hungary. OTP Hungary Fund Management Ltd was considering launching the first SRI fund in the region. Coloplast Hungary won the CSR MarketPlace prize 2009 for a 'truly responsible enterprise'. Environmental and health issues are especially important to Coloplast.
