ABSTRACT

“Green building” — sometimes also called “high-performance building” — refers to the practice of reducing the environmental impact of the built environment. Few applications of sustainability have attracted as much attention in recent years as green building, particularly in the commercial real estate sector. Green buildings are typically more energy- and water-efficient; they use environmentally preferable materials, siting, construction techniques, and operational practices. Several studies have shown that workers are more productive and have lower absentee rates in green buildings. Until the real estate crisis began in 2008, jobs for MBAs in green building were growing steadily. One way to differentiate ourself is to become either a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional or a LEED Green Associate by taking and passing an exam with the US Green Building Council to demonstrate proficiency in green building practices.
