ABSTRACT

There are different models of online learning, such as synchronous, asynchronous and blended learning, that are predominantly used for imparting education. Emergence of digital technologies, like the Internet, holds great prospects to expedite business education. In response to consumer demands, educational institutions have moved towards offering students, employees and others the opportunity to learn at their convenience. Many business schools in India have added online learning to their traditional in-class learning, to meet the demand for flexible learning.

This paper investigates the perception of decision makers towards online learning among business schools in India, organisational readiness, identification of constraints, critical success factors and a suggested implementation model for online learning are discussed. The study is conducted using a structured questionnaire that was completed by 41 heads of business schools in India. The results indicate that business schools in India need to look at the technology, faculty, students and cultural issues, before exploring the possibility of offering courses through an online learning mode.
