ABSTRACT

This chapter draws on the work and findings carried out within the EU financed project Voluntary Agreements-Implementation and Efficiency (VAIE, concluded January 2000). The purpose of the project was to describe selected agreements, their implementation and working, and discuss the future role of agreements at national as well as EU level. The empirical results and analyses are based on in-depth studies of energy-related voluntary agreements in industry in Denmark, Sweden, Germany, France and the Netherlands.1
