The triple bottom line includes the social and environmental performance of a company in addition to the financial results. The Henderson Socially responsible investment team uses both negative and positive screening to find companies suitable for investment. Commerzbank is recognised in Germany as a family-friendly employer, with progressive environmental policies, good housekeeping and responsible lending practices. Environmental screens are used to judge loan decisions and the bank has good housekeeping practices. Argentaria has an active role in supporting community initiatives, such as subsidised housing and social exclusion avoidance, as was evident from their reply. Argentaria is a leading lender to local municipalities, generally avoided by other Spanish banks. The bank has a progressive attitude towards communication with an emphasis on using suitable language, illustrated by its disclosure during the survey, its policy of employee training and feedback, and by its community involvement.
