ABSTRACT

Environmental performance evaluation (EPE) is an internal management process and tool designed to provide management with reliable and verifiable information on an ongoing basis. ISO 14031 and ISO 14001 both adopt the 'plan–do–check–act' model as their general management approach. The management of Perusahaan Pelindung Getah (PPG) decided to plan their EPE based on the environmental aspects related to the company's activities, the views of selected interested parties and a set of selected environmental performance criteria. PPG management established a project plan for each programme including the objectives and targets to be achieved within a specified time-frame. Each project plan lists the activities to be carried out, the time-frame, the resources, and the responsibilities associated with each activity. Some of PPG's indicators require raw data collection on a regular basis, analysis of the collected data and conversion of the data into indicators. Involving more people or expanding the scope of EPE requires the co-ordination of ongoing activities.
