ABSTRACT

Human resource management is central to the achievement of employee awareness and enthusiasm and effective environmental leadership. The most effective responses are those which make the company CLEANER, that is which develop: Coherence, leadership, enthusiasm, awareness, new processes and products, efficiency, and review. Environmental management is difficult. It must deal with a multiplicity of interactions between the company and the natural environment through actions that will often cut across traditional functional boundaries and hierarchies. Enthusiasm is fostered by an understanding of the reasons why change is necessary. As the costs of pollution control and waste management mount, so it becomes more desirable to prevent rather than treat pollution and waste. The contemporary business environment is complex and dynamic. Strategy theorists emphasise the need for regular monitoring of changes in the environment, and the interaction of these with the internal environment of the company, and the implementation of strategic plans.
