ABSTRACT

Kazakhstan is a former communist country and emerging economy, where the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) agenda is influenced by its historical, cultural, political and development factors. In 2013 JSC KEGOC took the lead in the development of Kazakhstan's first business guidebook on CSR and sustainable development, entitled CSR for Electric and Energy Companies to Increase Business Effectiveness. Smart Astana Project has been launched as part of the preparation for hosting the EXPO-2017 in Astana city, the capital of Kazakhstan. The main purpose of the project is to improve the living standards and welfare of the residents of the city, to modernize its infrastructure and to improve public safety and security. The project is based on following the best models of European smart cities, including promoting a smart economy, administration, life, mobility, people and environment. The Tengizchevroil project successfully pursued a multitude of goals, from raising test scores in area schools to training doctors to work more collaboratively with patients.
