ABSTRACT

The Inuit population of Greenland shares cultural and linguistic connections to the Inuit of Canada, Alaska and Siberia. The Greenlandic economy faces significant challenges and the outlook is increasingly grim. The country is still dependent on a significant economic "block grant" from Denmark constituting 36% of the annual budget to fund Greenland's welfare state. One of the most important issues for Greenland to address is the creation of new economic opportunities to address the emerging challenges in financing the Greenlandic welfare state. The national corporate social responsibility (CSR) network, CSR Greenland, published an overview report, on CSR in Greenland in 2011 focusing on the state of CSR efforts among Greenlandic companies. In 2011, the Greenlandic government and CSR Greenland formed a "Forum for Corporate Responsibility" to have a formal space to discuss CSR-related issues and explore how companies and government could work together on different issues.
