ABSTRACT

This chapter presents Dominica profile that includes sustainable enterprise in context; priority issues, trends, government policies, case studies. Dominica's legislation governing environmental protection in Dominica can be found in more than 105 pieces of legislation scattered across various government ministries, agencies and statutory organizations. Dominica's economy is based on agriculture and supported by revenues from tourism and services. There are five key sub-sectors for inward investment, namely green technology, information and communication technology, bottling and export of water, tourism and light manufacturing. In 2004, Dominica achieved the distinction of becoming the first country in the world to be benchmarked as a Green Globe 21 "eco-destination". The Dominica Organic Agriculture Movement was founded in January 2006 by a group of primary stakeholders in the production and trading phases of organic agricultural systems. It aims to achieve sustainable food systems in Dominica in which organic practices, fair trade and fair and ethical labour policies are embedded.
