ABSTRACT

This chapter presents Dominican Republic profile that includes sustainable enterprise in context; priority issues, trends, government policies and case studies. In March 2007, the Dominican Republic (DR) joined the Central America–Dominican Republic–USA Free Trade Agreement, implemented through the DR government's National Action Plan (NAP) and aimed at strengthening trade capacities and identifying needs regarding trade matters in the country. The NAP support's the country's development strategy to increase national productivity and competitiveness, as well stimulating policy improvements to achieve greater parity at a regional level. The DR ranked 53rd on RobecoSAM's Country Sustainability Ranking on environmental, social and governance issues, and 68th in the Social Progress Imperative's Social Progress Index on meeting basic human needs, establishing the foundations of wellbeing, and ensuring opportunity. In 2009, Centro Cuesta Nacional launched a unique campaign called "Orgullo de mi tierra", as an invitation to jointly rediscover the Dominican Republic.
