ABSTRACT

This chapter presents Trinidad and Tobago profile that includes sustainable enterprise in context, priority issues, trends, government policies, case studies. The concept of sustainable enterprise in Trinidad and Tobago in its infancy and it may be some time yet before it takes root in the business sector. Most of the businesses in Trinidad and Tobago that talk about sustainability are still operating within the realm of corporate social responsibility. Trinidad and Tobago is a signatory to various treaties and conventions related to sustainability in general and, more specifically, ecological integrity. The 2014 Environmental Performance Index gives Trinidad and Tobago an overall score of 52.28 out of 100 and ranks the country at 79 out of 178 participating countries. Trinidad and Tobago prides itself on being one of the most developed countries in the Caribbean with a gross domestic product per capita of approximately $20,400.
