ABSTRACT

Corporate sustainability is increasingly being taken up by corporations, leading many to wonder what the relationship is between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and corporate sustainability. The UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 2014 gave its strongest warning yet that climate change is with us and that the Earth's temperature is warming up: Warming of the climate system is unequivocal, and since the 1950s, many of the observed changes are unprecedented over decades to millennia. Concerns about possible environmental limits to rapid social and economic human development extend as far back as one is willing to look. Environmental goods such as clean air, clean water, intact ozone shield and intact biodiversity have become scarce at different times, but mostly relatively recently. The human development index of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is an attempt to include measurements of the human condition in development thinking.
