ABSTRACT

Henry Mintzberg is in favour of a methodology in which participants in MBA and Executive Education programmes build their learning process through sharing experiences, and through discussion between the student and the professor based on concrete management situations. The publication of Italian cases seeks to address these particular concerns. The case of Dynamo Camp is an enlightening example of a social business and of the adaptation of the model initiated by Paul Newman to the Italian socioeconomic and institutional environments. Italy is a country in which smaller family businesses are a significant part of the economy, public–private relations are important and, moreover, the change management processes are strongly influenced by the socioeconomic, political and institutional environments. It is well known that one of the strengths of the Italian culture is creativity. A criticism that is often cited is that the case methodology can turn into an instrument to reinforce the mainstream management culture.
