ABSTRACT

If we are to afford future generations an equitable and sustainable future, we must do so in a manner that addresses the future composition of those generations. Population aging has global implications, and the disciplines of gerontology and sustainability are logical partners in addressing both the opportunities and challenges that accompany this significant demographic change. Scant attention has been paid to population aging in the field of sustainability however and approaches to sustainable development are seldom used in gerontological teaching and research.
