ABSTRACT

This chapter is about T3 and Under, a programme started in 1995 out of necessity, when four employees all got pregnant about the same time. We found a way to help parents transition back to work after maternity leave that has been a huge success and has involved almost 100 babies. It has transformed my company and how our employees relate to each other. The chapter explains why we did it, how it works, both successes and failures and the economic and emotional impact it has had on all of us. It is not a solution that will work for everyone, but it has worked for us. Most of the participants have been mothers, but we have had several fathers caring for their babies with great success. So it is not a programme just focused on women. It is a programme designed for the difficult back-to-work transition. We have seen many social, financial, business and emotional benefits from T3 and Under. Our hope is that this programme will demonstrate that creative thinking from employers and employees working together can invent new ways to deal with both career and family responsibilities. It has been an amazing personal journey for me and probably the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.
