ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an overview of the conditions and requirements for a collaboratory given the increasingly complex challenges in our society and the world. The authors use the DesignShop system as a way to frame the collaboratory and point out the importance of considering a collaboratory as a journey, rather than a one-off event.
