ABSTRACT
Responsible Management has been a core module in undergraduate and postgraduate study at the Winchester Business School since 2010 including awareness of the need to generate sustainable value for business and society at large. Rather than relying on an intellectual framework of conceptual knowledge and understanding as the basis for responsible management education, economic and environmental life of a virtual island that uses an open source blogging platform. The majority of first-year students agree that the island approach to responsible management is both enjoyable and useful as a learning resource. Conceptual knowledge and understanding as the basis for responsible management education, first-year business students engage with their own living experience of learning as stakeholders in the social, economic and environmental life of a virtual island that uses an open source blogging platform. Laputare is used alongside weekly lectures, which provide the underpinning theory for the module, but this flexible learning resource forms the basis for all classroom activities and assessments.
