ABSTRACT

The clarion call to eradicate extreme poverty by the United Nations (UN) Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), especially in Africa, is a noble objective. This chapter focuses on poverty in Africa and its impact on education. The chapter aims are threefold: (1) to ascertain the nature and extent to Africa’s poverty vis-à-vis its wealth; (2) to determine what the primary cause of Africa’s poverty is and how to address it; and (3) to bring awareness of these factors to educators, school administrators, researchers, students and governments. Thus, the limited literature on Africa’s poverty and the neglect of addressing its root cause in management education necessitated this chapter.
