ABSTRACT

Israeli-Diaspora relations have a profound religious and ideological basis. The charity relationship of the Jews resident in what was once Palestine with that of the Jews in the Diaspora, precedes both the State of Israel and the Zionist movement. Israel’s largely pro-active economic policy towards the Jewish community in the world, though never formulated in a systematic manner, has a large number of components, one of which is raising charity funds for Israel for a continuously increasing number of institutions. In the framework of Project Renewal also, a significant number of Diaspora volunteers came to Israel to try to help the twinned neighborhood. There are many other benefits to Israeli society from Jewish Diaspora investments. A quantum leap in the sophistication of the giving process, as well as in Israel-Diaspora interaction in the field of philanthropy, was made through Project Renewal.
