ABSTRACT
The complete works (Oeuvres. Paris: Anthropos, 1969–70) are not generally available. Even the most recent edition of the Cours de philosophie positive (2 vols.) with valuable notes and commentary by Michel Serres, François Dagognet, and Allal Sinacoeur (Paris: Hermann, 1990) is already out of print. Comte’s early work was reedited: Ecrits de jeunesse, ed. Paolo E. de Barrêdo Carneiro and Pierre Arnaud (Paris: Ecole des Hautes Etudes de Sciences Sociales, 1970), but the only title in print is the Traité philosophique d’astronomie populaire, in the “Corpus des oeuvres de philosophie en langue française” (Paris: Arthème Fayard, 1985).
