ABSTRACT

Space constraints preclude an extended discussion of the background, causes, major actors, and daily events of the 1994 Rwandan genocide, let alone the international reaction. As alluded to earlier, females from all walks of life participated as collaborators and/or killers during the 1994 Rwandan genocide. Many of the girls and women who were raped became pregnant and had what many in Rwanda refer to as "rape babies". The exact number of women who were raped during the genocide is still uncertain. The Genocide Survivors Assistance Fund (FARG) is a major organization in Rwanda that provides important assistance to the survivors. The female population of Rwanda is doing its best to eke out a new existence. In many cases, they are working together, remaining stoic in the face of continuing trials and tribulations, and doing so with few resources in hand.
