ABSTRACT

The children follow her in her 'family career' which may and does include periods living in a single parent household or involve one or more 'stepfathers'. The preservation of the family bonds of children of separation depends on removing the barriers to male involvement with children across the board. In France again, for all its greater gender equality in some respects - including parenting, but emphatically not housework - sexual differences are celebrated and pursued by both men and women with some style. Some domestic conflict follows men's failure to conform to the rules and expectations that their partners wish to impose on them. No woman has to have children against her will, and many 'career women' ultimately opt for motherhood despite the so-called 'sacrifices' involved. Perhaps after all child-rearing is the emotionally richest part of life, which informed people with a choice prefer over other options.
