ABSTRACT

Since September of 1966 the Children's center has had a somewhat schizophrenic physical identity. The administrative offices, medical examining room, and major research labs are housed in the original building, a ramshackle collection of rooms, barely habitable. The children are housed in the educational building of the University Methodist Church, approximately five blocks away. The major requirement of any staff member is that he or she be interested in the welfare of young children and families and have some knowledge about child development. Many academic and professional sequences offer training in human development, and therefore representatives of many fields have contributions to make. The health program of the center is carried out by a staff pediatrician who is available approximately half-time, by three second-year pediatrie residents who see children regularly on a weekly basis throughout the year, and by four staff nurses.
