ABSTRACT

This chapter presents some separate studies utilizing different time-out procedures. One study is a multiple baseline study in which time-out in the form of physical isolation was provided for inappropriate behaviors and no experimental contingencies were provided for attentive behaviors. Another study utilized removal of adult attention as the time-out procedure contingent upon self-stimulative behaviors. The child in the latter study was a participant in a Child Treatment Center (CTC) for emotionally disturbed children. Generally, pairs of undergraduate students served as experimenters. Because the GTC was located in another city, the experimenters' were only able to work with the children on a one-day-per week basis. The child in the former study was (enrolled) in a behavior modification classon campus at N.M.S.U. One student worked with the classroom teacher on this project, and data was collected three days per week.
