ABSTRACT
Child psychology began with the direct observation of children in natural settings as the writings of Darwin, Preyer, Hall, Baldwin, and Taine will attest. Over the years, variations on this procedure have produced a wealth of information describing the flow of behavior changes. These variations have not been nearly as successful in providing data for an experimental analysis of child development.
