ABSTRACT

Telekomunikacja Polska (TP) is widely known as Poland’s national telecommunications operator. It employs over 40,000 people and is responsible for delivering fixed line telecommunication services to the nation’s residents. The ‘Corporate Governance Project’ marked a point in the on-going programme of organisational development and improved transparency at TP. Any organisation that undertakes an internal initiative focused on governance development builds on a governance system and processes already in place. For TP, its governance is simply the system by which it pursues the objective for which it is established, and avoids pursuing other purposes. The purpose of TP is the objective to which all decisions and actions are to be directed. The governance process principles are the commitments which the supervisory board and management board make to one another towards the purpose of TP. A number of elements were considered in determining TP’s purpose.
