ABSTRACT
I am going to say a few words about November 11, 1940, about which Alain Griotteray has already spoken, in order to add a few small things and especially to answer the question: Why? Actually it is quite simple. At that time we were the children of combatants of the Great War and our childhood had been nursed on stories about it; we were proud of being French because France had been crowned with the honors of its victory in 1918. We were a great power and we thought that the French army was the first in the world.
