ABSTRACT

There are certain moments of their long history that the French retain like a sickness. It took them two centuries to work up the courage to treat the war of the Vendée and its massacres as they should. Up until the two hundredth anniversary of the Revolution it was a war one was not to speak about, one that was barely mentioned in the history books. And yet how much courage, hope, and freedom, and how many noble passions, confronted one another in those terrible battles!
