ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book deals with the development of an analogy between socialism and ecology. It provides data and analysis of the media discourse on biotechnology from 14 European countries, Canada, and the United States and discusses the emergence of the “doubly green revolution” in Asia. The book traces the emergence of the neurochemical self through the “fundamental transformation of the locus of psychiatric care from the closed world of the asylum to an open psychiatric system” in which the use of pharmaceutical drugs have played a key role. It highlights the individualization of risk with regard to psychic well-being. The book also presents the case of the Icelandic Biogenetic Project where medical records for the Icelandic population are collected. It argues that problems with the cloning of animals make the cloning of humans unacceptable.
