ABSTRACT
At my first staff meeting after joining the Conservation of Human Resources Project at Columbia University in the early sixties, Eli Ginzberg announced that the study of employment and labor markets had thus far seriously neglected the urban dimension and that henceforth in our work there should be a major emphasis on cities. Over the years that followed, Eli was the enthusiastic champion of a number of urban-oriented studies and, often, a contributor.
