ABSTRACT

For years, employees and employers have been fighting over salary increases. Although this is a common situation all around the globe, this fight becomes especially fierce in many developing countries where salaries are usually not enough to cover workers' most basic needs. The standard to measure whether a proposition is the correct one to solve the problem has to be the common good, or how society is better as a whole. According to the Catholic Social Teaching, which is a very rich source on salary determination rightness, common good has to be taken into account when determining a just salary. Highly educated employees in developing countries can be as productive as their developed countries counterparts. Even though they have similar qualifications, they earn very different salaries. Widespread ethics ignorance has to be eradicated so that everyone understands his responsibilities and the long-term benefits of being ethically correct.
