ABSTRACT

The growth of the juvenile court movement has produced a new breed of judicial officer. Part legal expert, part administrator, part community organizer, and part politician, the juvenile court judge has developed distinctive styles and strategies that enable him to discharge his complex responsibilities. The job Analysis and Interest Measurement was completed by 292 juvenile court judges while they were attending some of the institutes and work conferences that were included in the demonstration training program sponsored by the National Council of Juvenile Court Judges. The dual responsibility of the juvenile court— rehabilitation of the delinquent and interpretation of the laws— closely links the juvenile court judge to the other court system personnel. The effectiveness of the judge's work is influenced by the quality of the job done by police, correctional, educational, welfare, recreational, probation, and other personnel concerned with imposing social control and providing therapeutic services.
