ABSTRACT

This chapter presents evaluating biomechanical overload in an orthopedic clinic. It derives from research conducted at the request of an orthopedic clinic by the University of Milan. The chapter aims to assess the risks due to awkward postures among the physiotherapists working at the center. It explains once homogeneous groups have been identified, their specific exposure risk can be assessed, based on which tasks are actually performed and their duration. The chapter shows the working hours, breaks, and the duration of nonrepetitive work for this homogeneous group on both the modal day and the peak day. It shows the distribution of routine treatments on the modal and peak days. The chapter describes the results of the risk assessment obtained using the OCupational Repetitive Actions (OCRA) checklist and comparing the four homogeneous groups. It compares the results of the analysis describing the awkward postures of the upper limbs using the OCRA checklist.
