ABSTRACT

Human communication development and education takes place over the entire human lifespan: from first words to final conversations. All communication lessons learned in life’s earliest stages, positive as well as negative, are carried forward into subsequent stages. And, unless communication education intervenes, for good or for ill, primitive, child-like communication abilities and understandings can migrate into adulthood. This chapter conceptualizes bullying communication as a type of dark-side communication. Then, following a lifespan developmental approach, the chapter reviews what is known about bullying communication in early childhood and closes by setting an agenda for future inquiry.
