ABSTRACT

Current politics in Western European countries, as well as in the US under Trump, try to work with symbolic and social barriers between majority populations and migrant communities. In this context, discrimination of cultural communities in areas such as health and welfare, social justice, and accessibility of institutional support can intensify feelings of disadvantage and being excluded or treated in unequal, unjust, or unfair ways. This can lead to or intensify social conflicts and tensions. In this situation, it becomes relevant to understand where and how such feelings of being disadvantaged are produced and where real disadvantage happens in institutional routines for example.
