ABSTRACT

The division of Germany had transformed Germans in East and West with its Berlin Wall. Whilst earlier generations of Germans might have taken for granted an undivided nation, that is one Germany, such a mentality had increasingly become alien to those Germans who had formed their lives in the face of the wall. The wall indisputably created two Germanys, whose elective affinities pushed each other apart, whilst always maintaining attraction, which pulled them together. In the following I would like to explore some of the ‘creative’ capacities of the Berlin Wall.
