ABSTRACT

Integrated reporting centres on the understanding and communication of an organization’s value creation plans by linking financial and sustainability information. It encourages integrated thinking as a new way to conceive of corporate success with the aim of ensuring greater capital market stability and sustainable development. This chapter reviews key milestones of the development of integrated reporting, introduces the International Integrated Reporting Framework and discusses the motivation for and deterrents to integrated reporting, its impact on internal operations and its use and consequences from an external user perspective. Integrated reporting is an evolving concept that faces many challenges.
