ABSTRACT

The Education and Sustainable Social Development course (ED SUS SOC DEV) is one of the core courses for current undergraduate and graduate students at the Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University. Each year more than 600 students register for ED SUS SOC DEV. The Faculty of Education also has other courses that are related to Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), and it maintains a research center on ESD. This chapter will describe how students learn about ESD at the Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University (Bangkok, Thailand), in terms of the subject matter and academic activities, the direct and indirect benefits of ESD, and international cooperation on ESD. While each section appears as a list of perceived benefits by the author, the experience of implementing ESD at Chulalongkorn University, taken as a whole, provides a holistic approach to how tertiary education can prepare young people to engage their common environmental future meaningfully.
