ABSTRACT

This chapter describes important biopolymer-based bionanocomposites, for example, polymer-based bionanocomposites such as chitosan-based polymer bionanocomposites, clay nanocomposites, gum polysaccharide- based bionanocomposites, cellulosic nanocomposites, and their applications in wastewater treatment. It highlights the fact that multidirectional research is required to accelerate the application of bionanocomposites at a large scale for the efficient removal of different types of pollutants in wastewater. The usage of water has increased more than three times the world's population increase, leading to worldwide deterioration in human health and limiting economic and agricultural development. The treatment of wastewater, to convert it into reusable form, is highly essential for future demands. The increasing expenditure on wastewater disposal and stringent discharge policies has made wastewater treatment a very critical and important issue. There are different types of bionanocomposites based on: type of matrix used, origin, shape, and size of reinforcements.
