ABSTRACT

This chapter examines how geographic settings contribute to child poverty. Drawing on news reports and research, the chapter uses UNICEF’s (2004) understanding of “children in poverty” (i.e., material, spiritual, and emotional resource deprivations) as a framework to analyze three separate cases of child poverty in the United States, Ireland, and Nigeria. The chapter concludes with some implications for child citizenship development.
