ABSTRACT

This chapter presents two case studies from the portfolio of Fondazione Housing Sociale – a key stakeholder within System of Integrated Funds – and describes the respective roles of key players in relation to the framework of the new culture of collaborative housing. A new culture of living is emerging in both private and public spaces, a collection of spaces in which people seek to improve their own living conditions by putting into practice collaborative and sustainable solutions. The chapter focuses on the consequences of this innovation for the Italian housing system and planning approach. It discusses what extent the development of the institutional framework, financing tools and local housing policies in the Italian system since the late 2000s is designed to satisfy the demand for new SAH models. The chapter outlines how several key new actors have begun to operate within the SIF environment, such as non-profit organisations and cooperatives.
