ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the Circular Economy, why a degree of confusion exists around the concept and key learnings associated with progressing more circular thinking within an organisational context. Implementation is presented first and foremost as a design challenge – be it about ways of working (process), products and services or business model innovation. A number of key factors are then set out which may enable or impede an organisation’s ability to become more circular. Sustainable development, whilst strictly speaking not intrinsically part of the criteria for assessing circularity, is nevertheless presented as a necessity or underlying principle.
