Introduction

This chapter positions the book within the European context and introduces its main purpose and objectives. Although there is a significant body of research on the topic of gender and sport leadership, sport governance has received considerably less scholarly attention. The chapter describes the attention given to this topic by the EU, argues why scholarship on the gendering of sport governance is needed and gives an overview of the contents of the 19 chapters that compose the book.
