ABSTRACT

This chapter compares gender diversity on sport boards in Europe and globally. Based on the Sydney Scoreboard Global Index results show that women remain markedly underrepresented on NSF boards in Europe in 2013–2014. The European average for all three indicators – number of women board members, gender of the chair and gender of the chief executive – is either similar or slightly below the global average. Only one of 21 European countries had achieved a critical mass of women board members and none obtained gender balance. Finally, I pose several questions in the quest to gender equality in sport governance.
