ABSTRACT

Romanesco broccoli, a native to Italy or eastern Mediterranean region, has been documented and cultivated in European regions since the 16th century. Romanesco broccoli is a good source of carbohydrates, protein, calcium, phosphorous, potassium and magnesium. It is rich in vitamin A and vitamin C but poor in fibre content. Romanesco broccoli in its very young stage is eaten raw or after cooking. They are used in pasta and stews, and sometimes, they are cut into small pieces and used raw in mixed salads or pickles. Romanesco broccoli has an immense status in medicinal use, as it helps in improving and protecting eyesight by supporting the vision. It grows well in cool and humid areas but not in very cold areas. Romanesco broccoli prefers well-drained, deep and fertile soils. Diamondback moth, which is one of the serious pests of cruciferous vegetable crops, also attacks romanesco broccoli.
