ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an automatic strength check system and weight optimization procedure for stiffened plate using the system. The automatic strength check system enables an automatic buckling and yield strength of semi-submersible floater. In structural optimization problem, one of the most significant problems is finite element analysis (FEA) time. The FEA is a method of dividing the model into many elements and the stress can be obtained only at the Gaussian point of each element. The chapter discusses two objectives: the first objective is to develop an automated system for assessing the strength of semi-submersible structures. The second objective is to develop a scantling optimization system for stiffened plates of semi-submersible structure based on the developed strength assessment automation system. The chapter explores gradient of the design variables is obtained through the simple stress estimation equation, and the time required for the analysis is minimized.
