ABSTRACT

La experiencia del silencio belongs to a number of monographs that Catalina Dobre has written on Kierkegaard's thought. According to Kierkegaard, silence is an essential part of communication. Referring to Kierkegaard's thought, Dobre claims that "his writing, his communication, his language emerge from silence". Immersed in this relation between silence and inwardness, Dobre points out that silence is not only an encounter with oneself, but also with God. The story of Abraham shows how the Father of Faith had to keep silence in front of Sara and Isaac, and, hidden within himself, listened to God's voice. Dobre also underscores the importance of silence in the existential sphere as a notion that permeates the entirety of Kierkegaard's thought. She suggests that silence is a dialectical category that marks both the beginning and end of communication, where it is possible to listen to the divine voice or get caught by demonic silence, where the infinite meets the finite in the instant.
