ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author explains the emergence of the model from her own 'practice as research' (PaR) and ‘practice-based research’ activities, explicating the nature and function of the model within that localised context, but also highlighting its potentially wider implications and applications. She offers some of the insights that the process of employing daisy chain model has produced. The author demonstrates the ways in which the model has potential value and application beyond its originating context. She begins the process of explicating the emergence, development and application of the model, she must first discuss some of the terminology associated with performance-based research and her particular usage of it. It is necessary to acknowledge the deep impact that doctoral criteria and the strategic priorities of the Research Excellence Framework have had on the development of author approach to PaR and the resulting daisy chain model.
