ABSTRACT

People now encounter is more of a wheel of choices and outcomes than a group of crossroads, hence the new concept of the 'Radiation Rotary'. All options have worldwide impact and are therefore topics of 'Addressing Global Challenges for Radiation Therapy'. This chapter focuses on ongoing efforts to build global collaboration and partnerships so that people can move ahead when exiting the Radiation Rotary. Its four sections address: the need for global collaboration in particle therapy (PT); how knowledge, experience and cooperation among fields involved in PT can develop new technologies for bringing cancer care to challenging environments, that is, cobalt to carbon; the importance of supporting individual research to achieve sustainable solutions to global health, science and societal problems, including dealing with the consequences of radiation exposure and nuclear or radiation incidents; and a consideration of how well radiation oncology fits within the world of precision medicine.
